@jrm: the project name is gtkclipit on sourceforge, because clipit was already taken. And the thing before the actual filename is not the version, it’s the folder the file is residing in. I organized the file in folders based on the version, meaning version 1 will be a folder, version 2 another one, etc.

I’m building a FreeBSD port of clipit, but the direct download URL from Sourceforge is a little wonky.

Typically the direct URL is:

http://some_sourceforge_dl_mirror/project/project_name/project_name/version/project_name-version.tar.gz

So for clipit the expected URL would something like:
http://heanet.dl.sourceforge.net/project/clipit/clipit/1.4.2/clipit-1.4.2.tar.gz

Right now it’s:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/gtkclipit/Version%201/clipit-1.4.2.tar.gz

I can make a little hack, but if it’s easy to change this, would you be able to?

By the way, clipit runs very nicely on FreeBSD.

How do I get something from the list of clips into a text editor? None of the Ctrl-Alt actions seem to do this.

And what are the Ctrl-Alt actions actually supposed to do?

I’ve figured out that Ctrl-Alt-h lets me gaze at the list of clips, which I guess must be the history list, but I can’t select an item to paste, nor can I drag the item to a text editor window.

I’m running 1.4.1 under Ubuntu 12.10.

What you think about using monochromatic icon for Ubuntu users?
System icons are mono, Dropbox icon is mono, etc…

Clippit is simply awesome, however it’s usefulness can be improved dramatically if I could find a way for it to stop moving entries in the clipboard around after each usage.

With Ubuntu HUD (heads-up display) it’s really tempting to just press alt and type 1. for the first clipboard entry and see it paste (in any application). However entries keep shuffling with each usage, so I am struggling to remember what is what.

For some reason, static entries also keep changing positions.

Is there any way to disable this position changing upon usage?

I have ClipIt 1.4.1 from the Ubuntu repositories.

I tried adding your repository ppa:shantzu/clipit, but there is no version available for Precise or Oneiric.

Please would you add them, as I am stuck with ClipIt version 1.4.1?

the actions file (as well as the history and exclude files) is normally located under ~/.local/share/clipit/
